The trio’s distinctive feature is exploratory and boundary-crossing music, and the experienced musicians find inspiration in many genres. Cooperation of Lembit Saarsalu and Swedish trio was initiated by the chief conductor of Uppsala Chamber Orchestra and Vanemuise Theatre Paul Mägi in 2007, when they performed together with Uppsala Chamber Orchestra  A suite for symphony orchestra, solo saxophone  and jazz ensemble ‘Hearts’ composed by Heikki Sarmanto. On several occasions Trio X has toured with Lembit Saarsalu in Estonia. including the international festivals RainbowJazz in 2007, Nargen Festival in 2008, Muhu Future Music Festival ‘Juu Jääb’ in 2009, the Estonian-Finnish-Sweden live music and dance production Changing Images in 2008 and 2009, which is based on music by Trio X of Sweden and Lembit Saarsalu. Together they have released two CD productions: “Special occasion” (2013) and “Sunday”.

Lembit Saarsalu ja Trio X-i koostöö sai alguse dirigent Paul Mägi algatusel 2007. aastal, mil koos Uppsala Kammerorkestriga kanti Uppsala Kontserdimajas ette Heikki Sarmanto Jazz Suite Hearts soolosaksofonile, džässtriole ja sümfooniaorkestrile Paul Mägi dirigeerimisel. Trio X on koos Lembit Saarsaluga esinenud mitmetel festivalidel Eestis: Rainbowjazz 2007, Nargen festival 2008, Muhu Tulevikumuusika festivalil Juu Jääb 2009, aga ka Venemaa suurimal dzässifestivalil Jazz Province 2012. 2008 ja 2009. aastal esineti Eesti-Soome-Rootsi koostööprojektis live-muusikaga tantsuetenduses Changing Images (koreograaf Russell Adamson, produtsent Merle Kollom). Muusikute viimane koostöö leidis aset 2013. aasta veebruaris Uppsala Kontserdimajas, mil kahe sõpruslinna – Tartu ja Uppsala linnavalitsused kinnitasid oma pikaajalist koostööd.
